Manual Theme Update

Always keep backup of your theme files and database before theme update
Go through ‘Update: Important Considerations’

Manual Theme update can be done :
  • via FTP
  • via WordPress Admin
Updating Theme via FTP
  1. Get updated theme.
  2. Extract the latest version of theme.zip file.
  3. Go to “wp-content > themes” location
  4. Keep backup of your current theme folder.
  5. You can delete the theme files then. This will not delete data / content.
  6. Drag and drop the new theme folder into “wp-content > themes” location.
  7. Done!
Updating Theme via WordPress Admin

Not recommended though.

  1. Get updated theme.
  2. Go to : Appearance > Themes
  3. Activate some other theme.
  4. This way you will deactivate the current theme.
  5. Now you can delete theme. You will not lose your data / content.
  6. Go to : Appearance > Themes
  7. Click ‘Add New‘ to upload the Theme to your blog.
  8. Click ‘Upload Theme‘ link.
  9. Browse for the latest version of installable theme in a .zip format.
  10. Click ‘Install Now‘.
  11. Once it gives message of ‘Theme installed successfully’, Activate the theme.
  12. Done!
